Description

Duty to Accommodate is a self-paced course that provides managers with foundational, practical guidance on understanding and applying the employer’s Duty to Accommodate in the federal public service. Through clear explanations and workplace-based examples, the course builds managers’ confidence in recognizing when accommodation may be required and engaging in respectful, effective discussions with employees.

The course introduces the legal foundations and limits of the Duty to Accommodate and outlines the shared roles and responsibilities of employees, managers, Labour Relations, and the Accessibility Service Centre. Managers learn a structured approach to identifying, assessing, implementing, and monitoring reasonable accommodations, while balancing employee needs with operational requirements. The course also highlights when and how to seek expert support to ensure fair, consistent, and compliant decision-making.
