Description

The IM for IM Specialists course is mandatory for all IM Functional Specialists at Health Canada (HC) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). Through eight modules, the course builds knowledge and skills in managing Information of Business Value (IBV) across the full Information Management (IM) life cycle in compliance with departmental standards.

Participants will explore the IM life cycle stages, including planning, collection, organization, use, protection, disposition, evaluation, and the use of IM tools such as SharePoint as a Corporate Repository (SACR). The course also covers key IM policies, legislation, and governance frameworks that guide information management at HC and PHAC.

Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize the IM Specialist’s role, support clients in identifying and managing IBV, apply risk mitigation strategies, and implement IM practices aligned with government policies and organizational needs.

The course takes approximately a full day (about 8 hours) to complete and includes interactive content, practical exercises, and a final quiz. A score of 70% or higher is required to successfully complete the course and receive a certificate.
