Description
Empathy is the innate capacity to directly understand the thinking, actions and feelings of others. To show empathetic leadership means having the ability to connect, that is to understand the needs of others, to being aware of their feelings and thoughts as well as being aware of your own internal processes. In the current work context, a leader without empathy is like an engine without a spark plug however, too much empathy can cloud judgment by undermining impartiality. How to find the right degree of empathy when connecting with employees is a challenge that we will explore in this session. In turn, showing compassion brings the connection to employees to a new level of humanity by implying that you are there to help. This session will guide you on how to move from empathy, to empathic concern, to empathic distress, to mentalizing and finally to compassion when establishing a bridge leading to action with your employees.
