Description

PHAC Western-Vancouver office is planning to attend a cultural, historical and ecological tour provided by the Musqueam Indian Band at the Cultural Education Centre in Vancouver. Tours are approximately 2 hrs. We’re planning it for the week of June 17th, date depending on tour guide availability.

This event is part of Western Region's Cultural Safety and Humility Learning series, aimed at increasing awareness and competence engaging with the First Nations peoples in BC and Alberta. The Musqueam people are a key partner for PHAC in BC and have lived in the territory, what is currently called Vancouver, and the surrounding areas, for thousands of years. The tour will take us through the land the Musqueam People have occupied for 4,000 years and introduce us to the contemporary landscape of the Musqueam Indian Reservation #2, explain the changes over time, and show us Archaeology sites that date back 1,500 – 4,500 years BP. It will also include an in-depth tour of the new state-of-the-art Cultural Education Resource Centre and the Museum Gallery space where many cultural heritage treasures are held.
