Description

For First Nations Peoples, the drum symbolizes Mother Earth and her universal heartbeat, enabling individuals to "listen to our soul" and understand our collective purpose and connection in the Circle of Life. The drum's rhythm is believed to facilitate healing and realignment of human existence across mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical realms.

Traditionally, First Nations people were resourceful, creating musical instruments from available materials. Drums were fashioned from carved wood and animal hides, serving as the foundational rhythm for songs and dances, which many considered sacred. The drum, is often described as "the heartbeat of Mother Earth."

The Awakening of the Drum Ceremony is a sacred tradition that includes prayers and expressions of gratitude to the animal and tree that gave their lives for the creation of the drum. The ceremony will feature ritual smudging of both the drum and the drummer, followed by prayers for those who hear the teachings of the drum.

The purpose of this event is to share our culture through the powerful medium of music, as part of our ongoing journey towards reconciliation. We hope you can join us for this profound and unifying experience.

We are honored to invite you to a special Awakening of the Drum Ceremony, led by Elder Rachele Prud'homme.
