Discover the Sun Dance, a powerful First Nations ceremony for National Indigenous Peoples Day.

 

Come sit with Lance Guilbault on June 26 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET and learn about the Sun Dance, a sacred ceremony practiced by many First Nations cultures in Canada. The Sun Dance symbolizes ing renewal, healing, and spiritual connection with the Creator. It and involves prayer, fasting, dancing, and sometimes physical endurance for sacrifice and commitment to find the mino-bimadiziwin (the good life).

 

Historically, the Sun Dance was banned by the Canadian government as part of theits efforts to suppress Indigenous cultures, but it remains a vital expression of identity and resilience for many Indigenous communities. In this session, Lance will speak to the significance of the Sun Dance, its cultural importance, and its enduring role in traditions and spirituality.

 

Lance Guilbault is Cree Anishinaabe from Ochekwi Sipi (Fisher River Cree Nation) in Manitoba, a Knowledge Keeper, Storyteller, and Oshkaabewus (helper) who loves to share teachings of cultural significance with others. Lance passionately shares teachings dedicated to integrating Indigenous context and perspective into the curriculum.
