Description
What is Cultural Humility and why is it so important? To be Culturally Humble, one must acknowledge themselves as a learner and understand that power, privilege, marginalization and cultural differences all have impacted on the health of Indigenous Peoples.
As public servants working within the colonized space of government, humility is a very important component of building strong and meaningful relationships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis partners, and the commitment to advance reconciliation.
Dr. Nadia Ferrara is a dedicated public servant and humanitarian, currently serving as Ombudsperson at Indigenous Service Canada and the Privy Council Office. With over a decade of experience with Indigenous communities, Nadia is also an adjunct professor at McGill University and a published author, focusing on Indigenous-settler relations, trauma-informed policy development and cross-cultural psychotherapy.
While Dr. Ferrara’s Cultural Humility presentation is broad based, it can easily be applied to the Indigenous context and help to understand what is required for individuals and systems to advance reconciliation.
