Description

Join Grandmother Irene Compton of the Minwaashin Lodge share her experiences and learnings on supporting First Nations, Inuit and Métis women and children who are survivors of domestic violence, and often survivors of the residential school system, including those impacted by intergenerational trauma.

 

Based In Ottawa, the Minwaashin Lodge is a specialized indigenous support centre that fills a critical gap in mainstream shelters and domestic violence services. It provides programs in the context of cultural beliefs and values to ensure a holistic approach to women and children’s healing journeys to reclaim the wisdom of First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultural teachings and identity.

 

Grandmother Compton is one of the co-founders of the Lodge and holds the role of The Keeper of the Stories meaning she preserves and carries the cultural memory, teachings, and spiritual knowledge of the organization. Born in Saskatchewan, Grandmother Compton is Saulteaux and an intergenerational survivor of residential school.
