Description

Join us on March 24 from 1:00 to 2:00 EST for a presentation from UBC’s Cluster for Indigenous Engagement, Development, and Research (CIEDAR). CIEDAR, an Indigenous-led research team, ensures that Indigenous voices are heard during current and future health emergencies by building relationships with Indigenous communities across Turtle Island (Canada and the USA), centering Indigenous learning and methodologies, collecting stories of lived experience to understand commonalities, and by supporting communities to affect change. For pandemic preparedness, CIEDAR works to connect with Indigenous Peoples and communities to understand the life experiences, opportunities, and challenges that affect their health and well-being, as these factors inform pandemic response. The Public Health Agency of Canada, together with provinces and territories, First Nations, Inuit and Métis partners, pandemic preparedness experts, is developing Canada's Pandemic Preparedness Plan (CPPP) to make sure Canada is ready to respond to future pandemics. The primary audience for this presentation is PHAC and Health Canada employees, who are developing content for CPPP. During the presentation, CIEDAR researchers will discuss their pandemic preparedness projects and how their findings and recommendations can be applied to support CPPP’s development.
