Description

Join us for Carved from the Land, a hands-on soapstone carving workshop offered during Indigenous Awareness Week (IAW). This immersive experience brings together culture, creativity, and community as you shape stone into a meaningful piece.

Led by Noah Bennell (NTW Métis), this workshop introduces techniques inspired by northern Indigenous traditions. Across many northern cultures, especially Inuit communities, soapstone carving is more than art – it expresses relationships with the land, animals, and lived experience. The stone comes from the land, and carving reveals what is already within. Pieces often depict animals and carry stories, knowledge, and cultural continuity.
