We meet with Phyllis Webstad and Teddy Anderson to discuss the story behind the story and the work of decolonizing publishing.
Join us for a thought-provoking conversation presented in partnership with Medicine Wheel Publishing. We are honoured to welcome acclaimed author Phyllis Webstad, whose story inspired the Orange Shirt Day and Teddy Anderson/ Yeíl S’aghi of Medicine Wheel Publishing for a discussion that goes beyond the pages of a book.
Drawing on Phyllis's new memoir, We Are Still Here: A Life of Truth and Reconciling Two Worlds, the conversation will explore what it means to decolonize publishing, the importance of Indigenous-led publishing, and the realities Indigenous authors can face when bringing their stories to the world. Phyllis and Teddy will share the challenges Phyllis encountered while trying to find a publisher for her first book, offering insight into the barriers that have historically shaped Indigenous storytelling and how the publishing landscape is changing.
Releasing on September 1, We Are Still Here: A Life of Truth and Reconciling Two Worlds will be available just in time for attendees to read it before the webinar, making this a unique opportunity to engage with the book and hear directly from its author and publisher.
