Description

Mentorship Plus is an initiative to better support leadership development, with specific emphasis on supporting members of underrepresented groups who aspire to leadership and career development. The initiative seeks to pair employees with mentors and sponsors to:

• Help navigate the system for upward career mobility;

• Facilitate increased visibility in informal networks; and

• Provide access to developmental opportunities to build skills necessary for career advancement.

The program comprises two separate components: Mentorship and Sponsorship.

Eligible mentees and protégés are those employees who identify with one or more of the following employment equity and/or equity seeking groups: Racialized Persons, Indigenous Peoples, Persons with Disabilities and 2SLGBTQIA+. Mentors and sponsors are not required to be part of an underrepresented group.

Mentorship is the pairing of an experienced or skilled employee (mentor) with an employee who would like to improve their skills or seek guidance on their career (mentee). The mentor acts as a role model and supports the mentee by sharing knowledge, resources and advice to help them improve their skills and successfully navigate various professional development or career planning situations.

Sponsorship ensures that high potential candidates are given equal consideration for high priority projects, development opportunities and advancement. Through sponsorship, a senior executive (sponsor) provides support to an employee (protégé), helping them acquire the skills and competencies for progression to the executive cadre.

Become a Mentor

We are now seeking mentors to share their skills and experiences with employees in support of their career goals. Mentors can belong to any occupational group and level. Mentors are not required to be part of an underrepresented group. The time investment is up to the mentor and mentee and can be as little as one hour per month.
